Chris Tonge Sales and Marketing Director at Ultimate Packaging has announced that he will attempt to waterski across the Humber Estuary as part of a major fundraising drive for St Andrews Childrens Hospice in Grimsby. Until eight weeks ago, the daring director had never attempted the sport, let alone considered a 10-mile round trip across the Humber!
The waterski challenge will take place in September and Chris has been training for the last eight weeks at Covenham Waterski Club in Louth. Covenham Club Chairman, Paul Rickett has given his free time to help with the cause. Paul said: We were happy to help Chris to train for his challenge it is a great idea and one that has required him to pick up the sport in a very short period of time. For the club it is our way of giving something back to the community after we were awarded a lottery grant a few years ago. Im looking forward to seeing him complete the challenge in September.
Chris has been lucky enough to gain support from local watersports store Reef Rash. Joint owners Jamie Armour and her sister Hannah Kennedy have given Chris a wetsuit and will loan him waterski equipment and a boat for the challenge.
Chris has set himself with the help of friends, colleagues and associates of Ultimate Packaging a series of challenges to raise funds for the hospice. He has already completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, taken part in a helicopter dunk and swam in a tank full of deadly tiger sharks all in the name of fundraising.
By the end of the year he hopes to be able to present St Andrews with 50,000 a sum desperately needed to keep the hospice running. September will also see Chris ride pillion at Cadwell Park with James Toseland, Double World Superbike Champion.
